Sometimes I've got to tell you--is it this time I'll tell you

I resigned from being a contributor on the Feminist Fitness Tumblr.

A,

I feel like a jerk for this, but I have to stop writing for the blog.

I remember that early on you said that you wouldn't focus on alternative eating styles and that your readers wanted to stick with the standard dietary advice that America's been promoting for a couple decades. I thought I could deal with being a lone voice in the wilderness, but I find myself increasingly saddened and frustrated by food posts that are contrary to what works for me and so many people I know.

The one-two punch of the baked poppers post and the carb post with the line "Quinoa, brown rice, whole wheat pasta, multigrain bread, vegetables, fruit- these are all carbs, and unless you go overboard, they won’t make you fat!" made me realize I can't keep contributing to this blog and encouraging people to read it when it includes the low-fat, whole-grain bias to such a prevalent degree. Because eating brown rice, whole wheat stuff, multigrain bread, etc., these things did make me fat and contributed to many of the health problems I carried for years.

A better, stronger person would continue writing for you, I'm sure, hoping that someone would see her success and attempt to contact her for more information. I'm not that better, stronger person, though, and instead of feeling like a rebel, I feel like a hypocrite.

I wish you the best of success with your blog, and your own fitness goals!

So there's that very short little chapter over and done with. I am not at my best right now, so it's a good thing I'm not trying to write about being one's best. I'm trying to be my best, but my idea of a good/better person doesn't always mesh with what other people feel is a good/better person. Also, I'm lazy.

I feel like this right now, only without the need for external validation.

Well, then, that should free up some energy.

Ha! Good point.

If you become too pure you will disappear.

Words to live by.

gee...what the heck is a "popper"...to me it's a drug you do on the dance floor, circa 1975. K, I just googled it, and they agree with my definition.

I'm sorry you don't feel like you're at your best.

[identity profile] shanmonster.livejournal.com 2012-02-14 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
It's amyl nitrate, which is used by lots of gay guys to relax their sphincters more for anal sex. At least, that's my understanding.

[identity profile] siro-gravity.livejournal.com 2012-02-14 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
yep, amyl nitrate.
dance floor.
circa 1975.

sphincter?
lol, ok. wish i'd known about that. :P

[identity profile] shanmonster.livejournal.com 2012-02-14 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
It's still being used now.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-02-14 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
HA HA HA HA! OMG. This with [livejournal.com profile] shanmonster's followup comment is too awesome.

Behold, Baked Jalapeño Poppers (http://www.recipegirl.com/2012/01/30/baked-jalapeno-poppers/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:%20TheRecipeGirl%20%28The%20Recipe%20Girl%29&utm_content=Google%20Reader). They're healthy because they're baked.

[identity profile] siro-gravity.livejournal.com 2012-02-14 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
GROOOOOOOOSSS!!! and it by no means looks healthy! even to ME, and I'm a carb person.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-02-14 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Tell me about it. I saw that and realized that there was just no way I could continue to write for a blog that posted a recipe for those as anything other than a joke or as an example of what not to do.

Total. Fitness. Fail.

[identity profile] shanmonster.livejournal.com 2012-02-14 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I do not want these near my sphincter. That is all.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2012-02-14 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)

:D
I literally yelped at that one!

I make jalapeno poppers, but with real cream cheesey goodness and wrapped in bacon, not bread yuck.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2012-02-14 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
See, now that's just DELICIOUS rather than popper grossness.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha

That is a lovely letter.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-02-15 01:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I thought it sounded better than "I don't want anything to do with a blog that gives such rotten advice." =D

[identity profile] pointoforigin.livejournal.com 2012-02-16 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
Well, good for you, I say. I've had too much experience with trying to create revolution from within. Ehh. At this cynical point in my life, I think you're way better off investing your energy in ways that make you feel good and don't stress you. And btw I'm thinking more and more that you're right and they're giving people bad information. So why lend your integrity to their show, when they aren't going to respect your contribution?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-02-16 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm thinking more and more that you're right

why lend your integrity to their show, when they aren't going to respect your contribution?

That's an excellent way to phrase it. "I feel I am sacrificing my integrity" is much more empowering than "This is making me feel like a hypocrite."
