The joys of urban wildlife
Well, this is exciting. Certainly not how I expected to spend my afternoon.
mckitterick and I are having Happy Fun Times with our Schendel guy who is here helping us get a squirrel (or, possibly, a bat or bird) out of our chimney.
Jim (our Schendel guy) is equally amused and irritated that we are opposed to killing the animal as anything but a last resort. It would make his job a lot easier, I think, if he could just gas it or something.
"I don't know what to tell you."
Hm. Not what we want to hear.

I remember birds getting trapped in the chimney when I was a kid. My dad would open a little metal door at the base of the chimney and there would be a little sooty bird.

Best wishes with your netting solution. I think we're just gonna rip up/block the whole chimney. We never use the fireplace, anyway.

Do you know anyone that has any type of live traps? If the critter is crawling around, you can set the trap for it, maybe?

It's been silent for several hours, now, and we don't think it would've died that fast, so we're really really really hoping that it escaped.
