Point the gun at your own foot, not mine

First off, I need to get two things off my chest:

WHAT THE FUCK, WISCONSIN? Seriously. What in the fucking fuck? I would expect this sort of bullshit from Kansas, but Wisconsin. I thought you were better than us that.

And FUCK YOU, U.S. SENATE. This wasn't surprising news, but incredibly disappointing. The most nauseating thing about it? Of the paltry number of women senators, five of them voted against it. Five. FIVE WOMEN VOTED AGAINST EQUAL COMPENSATION FOR THEIR OWN SEX. I just...I can't...I...I'm... *sigh* I'm just gonna put this here:

Yesterday was not a good day for progressives.

Fyeahfanvids.tumblr. I...didn't need to know this existed. Because, um...yeaaaah.

I have an appointment with Dr. Khosh (I don't remember which one) at 3:00 Friday. One hundred ninety-five dollar fee for the first consulting appointment. JFC.

Once in a while I daydream about if I'd pursued acting as a career. Then I'm reminded of the ridiculous working conditions they suffer.

Speaking of actors, here is an interesting essay about Benedict Cumberbatch's weird face. The first time I watched the Sherlock series, I was struck by how I didn't find him attractive at all, but his charisma kept me anchored to him. I couldn't not look at him. Then I made the Sherlock coat and I spent a lot of time (a lot of a lot of time) looking at him. Then I re-watched the series and discovered that my opinion/taste had changed and now I found him very attractive indeed. But what I love best about his face (and Martin Freeman's) is how mobile it is. I have a ridiculously expressive face myself, and I exaggerate the quality on a regular basis. I like seeing what [livejournal.com profile] e4q referred to as "cartoon face" in other people.

Ughhhh. Fuck Wisconsin and the Senate and internalized misogyny and just...ugh.

That vid is fantastic though. ♥

I'm more than dismayed, and horribly saddened that my own mother doesn't see past "anyone but Obama" because she is twisted by the stupid emails her 'publican "friends" send to her, no matter how many times I prove them to be lies and slander. I'm going to send her that screed in the comments by Matthew Tanner about how Repubs have beaten down women. I think I love that man.

Not that it will make you feel any better, but Jbird's consultation with the worthless endocrinologist, who works out of an LMH office but is not on the insurance network (WTF?!) was $374 for less than an hour of crappy advice, in which she wanted him to RAISE his insulin intake even though he'd had a severe low glucose episode!! AND they had the nerve to also charge him $23 for a fingerprick glucose test.
Healthcare, *snort!*

I often wish I'd pursued acting as well. But.. yeah...

I adore your drama pic! Well done! I need to put up more of my expressive photeys, and you've inspired me to do so.

I love Dean and Sam (mostly Dean, tbh, but I liked Bad Sam very very much). Talk about some misogyny, though. That show has Issues. I still watch it, though. And like it. *tsk*

Well, you know. You can't change someone's belief with facts. In fact, attempts to do so can make their beliefs even stronger. [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick posted a link to a scientific study about that a while ago. Seriously depressing stuff.

Yay for expressive faces in photos!

I agree with Gretchen, and with you!

Although, as far as Wisconsin goes, when you're outspent by nearly 8:1, it's hard to catch up. And that's just the money from Walker's campaign; it doesn't include outside ads by superPACs. At least the Dems now have a majority in the Senate there, even if Walker stayed in place.

I didn't expect anything less from our illustrious Republican women in the Senate. I'm convinced they would eat their young, let alone throwing their own gender under the bus.

OUCH! Here's hoping you get one heck of a lot of medical treatment/advice/etc. for that price! Especially since they don't take insurance (or at least I read that on their website the other day). Still, you may be able to file on your own, assuming you have insurance.

Cumberbatch's face is not at all classically beautiful, but it certainly is striking! Funny-I'm so used to seeing him in his Sherlock role that he doesn't look right with any other hair color!

WE ARE SMART WOMEN YES YES.

Good point about the money = success/power. BLAH.

I'm so used to seeing him in his Sherlock role that he doesn't look right with any other hair color!

I felt the same about Tom Hiddleston at first, because all I'd seen him in was The Avengers. Then I exposed myself to about eighty bajillion images of him on Tumblr and now I'll take him with any sort of hair color (or outfit, or setting, or anything anything at all) at all. YES PLEASE.

Wow.. I missed that study. I'll have to go back and read it.
*melodramatic depressive sigh*
And.. well, no more wasting spending my time looking up her email forwarded nonsense.

BC reminds me so much of an extremely talented actor at our local shakespeare center -- and I am magnetically attracted to both of them, as are many people.

He played Bottom in Midsummer Nights Dream as "a douchey art student vibe" - I wish there were vids of him performing because he's astonishing.

omg love that

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-06-06 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, there is definitely some resemblance there, yes!

our local shakespeare center

*ded* from envy

I want to see more (quality) live theater. Anything and everything produced by KU's theater department just leaves me cold. I won't spend the money (or time) for something that comes out of there. That means driving to KC, and $$$$. *shakes tiny fist in anger*

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-06-06 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Feel free to yoink it. I don't even remember where I found it.

[identity profile] gretchystretchy.livejournal.com 2012-06-06 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh for sure, it's problematic as hell. But I just can't help but love it. (And let's be real, if I only watched shows that weren't problematic? I wouldn't watch anything ever. XD)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-06-06 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I'm going to adopt that as my new response for people with whom I disagree. Because who can argue with awesome boots? NOBODY THAT'S WHO.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-06-06 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
SRSLY.

And honestly, I am problematic a lot of the time, myself. I objectify people, I drink and smoke too much (or used to, anyway, and would return to those habits in a heartbeat, given the opportunity), and I'm an enabler of bad habits in others.

Not really one to throw stones, here.

I have been smitten with Benedict Cumberbatch ever since someone sent me the "Otters who look like Benedict Cumberbatch" link. Now I see otters whenever I look at him, which makes me happy for no real reason at all (I have a hard time not smiling at pictures of otters). This, of course, triggers an association, so I cannot look at the man without being all forsquee.

Love,
Rowan

Have you seen the Martin Freeman = Hedgehog stuff?

I had the same basic response to Benedict Cumberbatch as you - when I first saw him (in Sherlock), I thought he was interesting but not necessarily good-looking. Now he's on my list of best-looking and most interesting actors.

I'M SORRY I CAN'T HEAR YOU OVER THE SOUND OF HOW CHARISMATIC I AM

HERE LET ME SEE IF I HAVE MORE CHARISMA HIDDEN UP MY SLEEVE

I would so make these into gifs if I had decent editing software right now.

Love this. What a great thing to see first thing on the internet this morning!
