I received a holiday card from Panera Bread. WTF.
Also WTF: Female fighter pilots edited out of original Star Wars movie.
More WTF: When I posted the new Star Trek trailer I mentioned to someone (either in comments or email) that I was surprised I hadn't yet seen an in-depth analysis of WHOSE HAND IS THAT on the other side of the glass from Spock's. Well, here you go.
So this finally happened over the weekend:

Our friend Dan told us about the KU Marksmen club, which was having a range day on Saturday. Friendly people, although not a group amongst which I'm likely to discuss politics.
mckitterick and I will probably join next semester, depending on how often they have shooting days. Regular use of their outdoor range would be handy, and just three days out there would the equivalent of paying for time at a shooting range in KC.
I had only one major mishap, when I was distracted on the second shot. I'd forgotten that I put the safety back on when I asked
mckitterick a question, pulled the trigger, nothing happened, got flustered, and put my face too close to the scope after releasing the safety. The AK doesn't have a lot of kick, but it was enough to smack me a bit above my left eyebrow and gave me a sizable bump. LESSON LEARNED. Perhaps alas, it's not going to bruise. So all the pain and none of the glory. TYPICAL. I got a minor ouchie after the third shot with
mckitterick's 12 gauge pistol-grip Mossberg. My hands are too small to absorb the energy from that and my left thumb started to swell a bit after three shots. I'm pretty sure I sprained it, because that thumb was pretty much useless for the rest of the day.
Looking at the photos that Dan put up, I can tell I need to work on my standing posture with a rifle. Holy shit that is some bad posture you guys. I'm surprised I didn't knock myself over backwards or something. I'd like to delete those photos and pretend they never existed, but knowledge is power, and it's good to remember where I started. Kneeling posture is...okay? Standing posture has got to improve.
I'm not keen on a couple songs on Ke$ha's new album (the Iggy Pop one is sadly unlistenable, IMO), but this one makes up for everything. I like the trashy southern-rock feel, but what really makes it for me are the lyrics. Nearly every line of this song has a double entendre and it's just so fun and fucking clever. It's very NSFW. Listen at home or with headphones.

You shoot left-handed!
I'd say the posture will come around.. it's like learning a new dance pose, awkward as hell at first.
Song fucking rocks. That's all that needs said.

Yep! I've always been left-eye dominant, and the first time I shot a rifle I wore glasses, so it was easier for me to do it with my glasses off and of course I used my left eye to aim. My left eye is still a little better post-LASIK, and it feels awkward to shoot right-handed now.
I had never shot anything other than a handgun while standing. I'd always used a brace or a ledge or knelt or something. I was not comfortable standing up, and it shows.
Song fucking rocks. That's all that needs said.

Could she possibly fit in more double-entendre? I think not.

My boyfriend gets visibly uncomfortable when I mention shooting guns. It's somehow both sweet and irritating.

WTF SERIOUSLY about cutting the female X-wing pilots? GEEZ. They could have been enjoying decades of fan-worship, but alas.
You should post a link to Dan's photos!
Yeah, "Gold Trans Am" is hilarious. And awesome.

Because they're terrible? I'm hoping the photos on our camera are a little better. Also, video.

I haven't made it past track four of the Ke$ha album, but if I hate half the songs, "Gold Trans Am" will more than make up for it. *throws the horns*

Unrelated to that curiosity, I want to share that I love autotune.
