Not afraid to use it, strip it and abuse it

The Rob Zombie show was pretty great. Short (IMO), but great.

We hauled our asses down to the pit after the opening bands wrapped up and man was that a good idea. Because we are tenacious little fuckers, we got close enough that I could (barely) make out Rob's facial expressions through his hair. It helped that the crowd was polite. I'm talking, like, shockingly polite. No joke, the general admission floor at the Huey Lewis concert I saw when I was fourteen was pushier than this audience. There was a mosh pit, yeah, but they contained it to a small area and everyone was respectful in letting participants go in and out. My boob got grabbed at one point by a burly fellow who (honestly) was only trying to make way for a mosh-pit-participant exiting with a bleeding hand.

The show itself was a brilliant spectacle. There were ton of lights and several enormous puppet/machines things, some of which served as moveable pedestals for Zombie to strut around on. Sometimes he reminded me of a revival preacher. At one point, surrounded by smelly, sweaty, happy people, bombarded with noise and lights, seeing an enormous skeleton-train-machine roll across the stage with Zombie in his raggedy clothes and screaming charisma singing on top, I wondered if this was similar to the best parts of Burning Man. And if so, I understood why people who go to it love it so much. STILL NOT A HIPPIE, THO.

I was surprised and disappointed that he didn't sing many songs from the new album. I think he only did three from it. There was no "Mars Needs Women," and that was sad-making for me, at least. He did sing "Thunder Kiss '65" which, honestly, is not my favorite of his older songs, but the crowd loved it.

His outfits, though. MY GOD HIS OUTFITS. I hesitate to call them costumes because I can see him wearing these things on a regular basis. God knows I would. In fact, I'm tempted to make the coat he first took the stage in (minus the two-foot-long arm fringe). It was basically a collared frock coat, with tightly laced sleeves and three long slits down the back, laced from neck to hem with grommets. Honestly, a pretty simple design but fucking sexy like whoa. Where in hell I'd wear it (besides KCRF), though, I have no idea. Hell, maybe instead of a new dance costume, I'll make myself a new cover-up using that design. Because I need another project. Here's a good shot of the coat that shows the front and sleeves. I can't find a picture of the back, which is unfortunate because it was the most dramatic part.

Apparently they almost canceled this gig because ticket sales were so low. So so so glad they didn't. And it didn't rain on us. Not even a drop.

In completely unrelated news, today's Tumblr is Tuesday, August 6: Cowboys.

What's weird about Rob Zombie is that he has an insane Internet popularity but seems incapable of selling records or concert tickets.

I don't get it.

Wow, I don't get it, either. I guess that's why he usually tours with festivals. Which is why this is the first time I've seen him. He only had three opening bands at this show.

It's a damn shame that he can't sell tickets. He puts on a mighty fine arena show. And I've seen some fine arena shows. I do have to mention he does not sing well live. But at least one knew it wasn't pre-recorded!

In the 13 years I've been here he's never played France except at one weirdo festival in the middle of nowhere that you couldn't get to without a car and he was on the small stage playing at like 11 a.m. and it would have been literally impossible to get there in time.

I don't get it.

Living Dead Girl has more than 7 million views on YouTube, you'd think that would translate into some ticket sales.

Dear heavens, all that hero dirt in your Tumblr post has made me very happy today. I like to think the CKR and Daniel Craig are in there just for me...preserve that notions, would you? :)

Sure. JUST FOR YOU, BB.

that is a completely rad coat. I think you should make and rock the hell out of it every other Tuesday!

I need a lifestyle that can better support my sartorial inclinations.

your random fact for today, thanks to your very savvy use of "sartorial" above, is that sartorius (the muscle that diagonally crosses the thigh from the hip to the knee) is also known as the "tailor's muscle."

I had to reblog a couple of my fave cowboys for you, 'specially since one qualifies for a smoking tumblr. :)

Interesting to know, because I think that muscle hates me.

Glad you had a good concert and OMG Cowboys! I loved Han as the first, and then MORE LOVE.

Yay! So glad you liked it!

Your cowboy tumbler reminds me of My Daguerreotype Boyfriend, which is where I discovered my historical crush: http://mydaguerreotypeboyfriend.tumblr.com/post/5987407502/robert-cornelius-the-original-daguerreotype

*sigh* It's the tousled hair.

That is a GOOD Tumblr. I thought I had followed it, ages ago, but I guess not. Thank you for the reminder!

I forget and then rediscover it on a regular basis.

Also, young Teddy Roosevelt.

OMG, SO JEL. I would have loved this. I saw White Zombie when they were touring with some festival that [livejournal.com profile] pamelonian can probably name, but I can't, supporting their first album. Satanic groove metal for the forever win.

My favorite song on La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Vol. 1 is "Soul-Crusher."

The first time I heard "Thunder Kiss '65," it was on KJ. I was hooked. Crunchy hard evil + funky. Yes.
