Take flight

It's a free country and all, but if you looked at, linked to, or posted the leaked photos of Jennifer Lawrence and other women, I am judging you, hard, and am really close to removing you from consideration for future interactions. I don't feel I need to explain why, but this article does a nice job. And this this Tumblr post sums it up even more succinctly:

If you say

"Don’t take a nude pic if you’re a famous woman and don’t want it leaked."

You're also saying

"Don’t wear a hoodie if you don’t want to be mistaken for a criminal and shot."
"Don’t get drunk at a party if you don’t want to be sexually assaulted."
"Don’t argue with a cop if you don’t want to get killed."
"Don’t walk home by yourself if you don’t want to get raped."

Victim blaming 101: Everyone should live in fear from ever doing anything.

To which I say

Today's Tumblr is Tuesday, September 2: Wings.

This was my first Labor Day Weekend spent at home in ten years. It was amazing and relaxing and wow do I not miss KCRF even one teensy little bit. I thought about writing up a post about it yesterday but then realized Oh fuck a bunch of that. I'm not out there? I'm not even gonna think about it! and it was wonderful.

I think I've gotten my FB feed pretty douche-bag free, because every post I saw on there was condemning the stealing of those photos.

Also, SO glad your long weekend was relaxing and wonderful!

Congratulations on a douchebag-free FB!

I have never understood blaming the victim. It ALWAYS happens and even as a very self-involved teenager, I was like "WTF?"

It always gives me brainlock because it makes *no sense.* How is the one with little or no power in a situation the one to blame?!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-09-02 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Because that is how oppression works.

Hooray for a relaxing weekend! I'm still working the occasional (very occasional), front gate shift, but I know just what you mean about feeling relaxed this weekend, where I woke up briefly on Saturday morning, then rolled over & went back to sleep in air conditioned comfort.

And yeah, I'm happy to say that my friends on-line & off were on the "don't blame the women, and definitely don't look at any of the photos" end of the spectrum.

And didn't have to worry about site being a mudpit from the storms. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

:( I didn't know about the leaked photos but I'm very sad that this happened. Those poor women!! :(

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-09-02 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It's just nauseating. I am so fucking tired of everyone except white men being shit on all the god damned time.

I was really relieved not to have to deal with anybody being a douche about the leaked photos. I've finally surrounded myself with the right people.

HAPPY DAY!

FUCKING COSIGN. Very few things piss me off more than victim blaming. NO. That's GROSS.

And hooray for a relaxing weekend!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-09-03 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
And looking forward to another one! Whoop Whoop!

Love the wings! I have one of those wing scarves in the black/cream colorway, in cotton. It's a thin weave, so I'd like to splurge on a heavier one in the future. The detail is lovely.

Oh, wow! How cool to know someone who actually has one! They look gorgeous.

I found them on etsy a year or so ago and picked one up this summer. Want all the colors!

Thanks for the wings. They provided a lift to my spirits. GRRRR so angry about people who perv on a woman's private things and then self-righteously blame her, after they invaded her space and stole from her. And LOL--I totally agree with not giving the places you DON'T want to be the consideration of a blog post! The minutes that would have taken should be yours, all yours.

[identity profile] pointoforigin.livejournal.com 2014-09-03 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
Edited to add: I think that's the point of victim blaming. They want us to be afraid to do anything. Because then we are totally controlled.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-09-03 11:57 am (UTC)(link)
BINGO.

oh gack. @*&$%*@&#^@#(

Ren Fest Blues

[identity profile] the-lucky-nun.livejournal.com 2014-09-05 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
The last time I was at KCRF, the boys were old enough to recognize items they'd like to own, but too young to understand why I couldn't afford to buy them. It made for a frustrating, argument-filled day. I haven't been back since I was given free tickets in 2004. Every once in a while, I get nostalgic for it, then I run into someone who just went, and all they do is complain about how crowded it was and how much money they spent.

What I miss about the Ren fest is: walking around in the woods with the smell of campfires, hanging out with friends and drinking in the beer garden, looking at brightly colored outfits, and checking out the perfumery. So maybe I'll just hang some banners, have a campfire in my backyard and sniff some essential oils while I roast marshmallows and turn some drumsticks on a spit. With a tankard of ginger beer, of course.

I think it's easy to get distracted by all the shops, especially because our culture is so commercialized. But there are a lot of fun shows out there--Matthew Gurley's magic show, Bawdily Harm, the bird sanctuary folks. There aren't as many shows as there used to be, thanks to KCRF's shit management, but there are still ways to spend a day out there without it being shop-shop-shop all the time.

That's not so easy to do with kids, though, I realize.

I loved the comedy and music shows! Man, I'd forgotten about them. Now I want to watch Monty Python.
