Neither tact nor tactics

It's That Time of Year again when the inside of my nose becomes dry, tender, and cracked from the forced heated air despite the fact that my office is freezing cold and we don't generally keep our house above 65F. MY FAVORITE.

I got my hair cut Saturday and my lovely stylist gave me a free blowout because she's awesome (and I tip well). It takes nearly twenty minutes to blow dry my hair--really blow dry it, not the half-assed thing I do at home--but when it's done well, my hair flows like water. I've been told I look like a Pantene advertisement when my hair's straightened like that. However, the power of my curl is strong and despite not washing my hair or even letting it get damp, it's starting to curl up at the ends and get tangly. I'll probably have to rinse it out this weekend. Sadness. I love my curls, don't get me wrong, but it's such a treat to be able to run my fingers through my hair a couple times a year.

Pretty much everything in this store is something that I'd like to have in my house. Especially this wallpaper. And I hate wallpaper.

Item of note: since I resigned myself to wearing All Knits All The Time, I care less about my abdominal swelling issues. It's amazing how, when I don't have to choose between clothes that fit half the day or have a waistband digging into my belly, the issue is...liveable. I would still like it to stop already, but it's not making my life miserable. Does cut down on my desire to participate in dance gigs, though. Fasting is doable, but that doesn't mean it's easy.

There are two things wanna do in my life right now: 1. Become re-engaged with my job. I am putting precious little soul into it lately and that's not helping my efficacy, enthusiasm, or efficiency. 2. Be more productive on the weekends. I want to get some art done, but once I'm finished with errands and house duties, it's all I can do to even make it to the damn couch. [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick and I were having a conversation about Managing Life a few nights ago and he pointed out that I am great at strategy but not so good at tactics. So those are my two strategies for feeling better about my life right now. Just gotta figure a way to plan out those tactics.

I want that wallpaper! I was sad that I discovered Morbid Anatomy *after* I left CT.

I have found that when I allow myself not to care about something (which is really hard), it does make things easier. Kudos to you for giving yourself that freedom.

I bet! Better late than never, though?

That is pretty cool wallpaper. I like wallpaper that magically attaches and dis-attaches itself to the wall at my whim.

I've seen a few places selling small humidifiers that attach to the top of water bottles. I considered getting myself one for my office when I was working in my cube more often.

Gotta go research this, now.

A couple of people here have this type and love it in the cube farm: http://www.amazon.com/HoMedics-UHE-CM15-Personal-Ultrasonic-Humidifier/dp/B009ZP3ABC/ref=sr_1_17?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1415911612&sr=1-17&keywords=desktop+humidifier

Hey, sure! NQ!

Your two things are my two things, @2 especially. I should write about this myself because both of these are things I am struggling with right now.

Thanks for posting that store link! I'd never been there before and already see a ton of stuff I'd love to have.

I would love to read about how you're working through those things, too. We can form a club or something.

I'd love to have seen pix of the hair blowout.
I remembered what made my hair go completely sleek all the time back when.. heavy conditioner.. balsam and protein by Revlon, I think it coated my hair and weighed it down. But of course, that was all pre-coloring days.

I'm loving spandex pants these days. If you get a chance, make a trip downtown to Chico's and try on a pair of the Peyton So Slimming pants.

Next time I'll get a photo. I'm thinking of doing another 365 project next year because next year I'm forty-five!

When my weight stabilizes, I'll definitely be checking those out, thanks!

My nose is doing that too. I hate it. And I feel better about life since I discovered PajamaJeans. I've been thinking that I need to upgrade my wardrobe, but first I have to find things that don't hurt me. Otherwise I will just want to rend my garments like the Hulk.

Once I decided to stop buying woven fabrics, my thrifting excursions became less plentiful but much more productive.

OMG this! Utter freaking misery and it sucks. Blech!

I need to get myself to a drug store for some of those saline nose-squirter things.

Being comfortable ... or at least less uncomfortable is pretty important. Obviously, it sucks that you're still dealing with swelling, but not having your clothes fit wrong half the day no matter what you do is good. I'll help motivate you to do some sewing with knits if you do the same for me. We can be cheerleaders for each other. ;)

Do you have any art projects that you can do while resting? I had an applique project that required a ton of picking fabric and cutting and hand-sewing, and the way I handled it was on a day when I had time and energy, I did a crap-ton of cutting, put everything together in a bin, and then kept the bin by the couch, so I could hand sew while watching tv or doing absolutely nothing else but relaxing. So maybe if you had a something portable, or something you could keep by the couch, you could do something similar?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-11-15 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh god I am TERRIFIED of sewing with knits. If you want to hold each other's hands while we learn, I am all over that. Heck, I'll check out the Stretch 'n' Sew pattern catalog at Hancock's while I'm running around today. Email me your schedule and we'll make something work. SOON. Heck, I'm free T-day Friday and Saturday (I avoid all but the most crucial of errands those days) if you wanna schedule something for that weekend.

Like that yo-yo quilt I've been working on for four years? =D GOOD IDEA! Maybe I'll also look for a pretty little basket that I can keep by the couch to hold that stuff so it's out and I can see it.

You are brilliant! Thank you thank you!

[identity profile] sherwood21.livejournal.com 2014-11-15 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, I'm OFF T-Day Friday and Saturday also, so hell yes, let's make something work one of those days. My schedule is currently 5 12's (last of which is tonight, THANK GOD), off Sunday, 3 12's, off Thursday, 3 more 12's, off Mon/Tue (which will be the first time I get to see the Brit for more than four hours at a time) and on W/T. I just keep reminding myself that by the time I get the paycheck, the overtime nightmare will be mostly over.

One of the big tips I've seen is using that thin, clear elastic to reinforce structural seams in knits, especially the shoulders, so I'm going to try to hit Hancock's & pick some up pretty soon. I also own a serger, which I have never used. Mostly I just give it some side-eye and edge around it in quiet terror. However, we can totally experiment with some knits with it!

I'm glad I could be brilliant for you!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-11-15 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I have a super nice Husqvarna serger, too! I mostly use it for finishing edges. *sigh*

WE SHALL DO THIS BB.
