A week of not working

I want to share bits of an email that a (tragically no longer local) friend wrote to me, now that she's well into Guardian. We used to talk due South all the time and it pleases me so much that she's On Fucking Board with Guardian, too. She wrote:
"After my initial wiki read for background info, I know the source material is REALLY BEAUTIFULLY GAY, and for TV they changed it because of Chinese censorship laws.... But the thing is, the gay subtext is so vibrant that it just feels like REALLY GOOD slow burn, like in the Keira Knightley P&P when we get cuts to Darcy's hands to see how excited he was just to touch her hand

 

And maybe my thoughts on this are coming from a growing up in fandom that saw don't ask don't tell, and queer-baiting, and bury your gays, and worked with a bunch of broken cannon bullshit to build queer romances into beautiful, real things, but by episode 16 of guardian I am just feeling that their "subtle hinting of the gay" is BEAUTIFUL. Like, I just want this service Dom and his playful sub to tease each other FOREVER (five-ever even). 

 

Which is why I'll watch the whole show and pretend like the ending NEVER HAPPENS

Pretty much, yeah. Fuck I love this show.

Things I don't currently love: Realizing  I had no idea how much time I actually spent on the internet (I mean I knew it was a lot, but) and I'm trying to figure out how to do everything I want to do (on the internet) and still have an active life.

I'm also stressing out about hoop-jumping for unemployment benefits. I have to submit my report thingy by Sunday and I'm...not prepared. Ugh. Also, I found out that the reimbursement of my vacation time is going to put me in a tax bracket that'll make my government health insurance go from about $25/month (because I could pay it out of my tax credits...somehow? idk how these things work) to $500/month.

There's a new Dessa song out today and I know everything is All Guardian All The Time in my brain right now, but:

And I finally finished all the 520 Guardian exchange fics. Holy crap this is a talented fandom. I've got to get started on my own stuff, soon. Art probably won't happen until after July (I've got a couple small fanart pieces for other people I'm going to be working on until then) but I very much want to start toe-dipping into fic-writing. eeep.

I do collage art! Here's my stuff on AO3, which is, with one exception, all due South related. I wanna do portraits similar to the Mycroft one for Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan, though, because Their Perfect Faces.

OH YAY! I just got off the phone with the Kansas Department of Labor and if I don't file anything this week (my first week) it'll just make the account go dormant. Then when I reactivate (once I have some more ducks in order), I just have to explain why I didn't file stuff then. And "I forgot I had another two checks coming from my employer" is a perfectly acceptable reason, according to the woman on the phone. So there's a bullet dodged. The gun is still loaded, but at least I'm not looking down the barrel right now.

subtle hinting of the gay

Interestingly enough, for me Guardian doesn't read like the subtle hinting of the gay that I am used to at all. For me, it reads like a straight-up gay romance, with everything except on-screen kissing. It's so satisfying for me because it gives me all of the things other shows only ever tease about - but Guardian commits and *goes there*.

It's just so good. :-)

I'm trying to figure out how to do everything I want to do (on the internet) and still have an active life.

Please figure this out ASAP and then let me know!!!
