Petty problems
My thighs and butt (more accurately: my quads, gluteus medius, and adductors) are so incredibly sore. Wow. I don't remember the last time I had DOMS this bad. Good workout, Trainer Chris D! Thank god for yoga tonight.
I am unhappy with my new nail polish color. China Glaze "Flying Dragon (Neon)" comes out streaky and thin-yet-gloppy. The glitter in it hardly shows at all. Three coats and it still doesn't look even. Also, it's a matte finish which it totally does not say on the label. I am going to ask Beauty Brands if I can return it. I am never going to wear this color again. I'm not even bothering to put on a top coat because it's coming off tonight as soon as I can get to a bottle of polish remover.
Because I am still not losing fat, and because I think it will help me get over my issues with food, I'm going to do the Whole 30 Program from the Whole9 folks. Anyone wanna embark on this craziness with me? No booze for thirty days! eek But I can do it! The only part I'm sad about is I won't drink with my girls before the Lady Gaga concert. But that's a small inconvenience in the grand scheme of being kick-assingly fit.

Last night I went to bed with an upset stomach (nausea, not cramping). I thought it was something I ate, but now I'm having some lower G.I. discomfort and bloating post-coffee. Hm. This isn't good. I need to make it to yoga tonight (see first paragraph of entry)! Stupid digestive tract better not sabotage my evening plans.

edit: And I just realized how bitchy that came across.
Good luck for yourself. I hope it works for you.

It's a much less frightening proposition to someone who's already 75% of the way to eating like that.
Of the following:
1. Do not eat dairy..
2. Do not eat grains.
3. Do not eat legumes.
4. Do not eat or add sugar of any kind, real or artificial.
5. Do not eat processed foods.
6. Do not drink alcohol, in any form.
7. Do not eat white potatoes.
8. Most importantly… do not try to shove your old, crappy diet into a shiny new Whole30 mold.
I have already nixed numbers two through five and seven and eight. I don't think I'll have a huge problem with this, and I'm very excited to see the possible results!

I'm really not sure how or why these type of diets are supposed to work.

When you have digestive and/or autoimmune problems, eliminating causative foods provides welcome relief. I avoid diets and like to eat, too. This isn't a "diet" in the sense of "I'm doing this to lose weight so I can go back to eating normally" this is a "diet" in the sense of "my body is behaving sub-optimally and I am interested in a lifetime of positive eating habits to bring myself to heath."

Go for it. Good luck. I hope it does everything you want it to and fluffy kittens.

True dat.
I can't see me being willing to do anything so drastic, as my food choices are pretty limited as it stands. Giving up cheeses would require a great deal of sacrifice for me, and I really don't think that's causing me any health issues.
And how this for justification? When I go off wine, my cholestrol levels go through the roof. :D

You're an adult, and you get to make decisions about what you eat. You don't have to justify anything. =)

I's just bein' funny!
Damn I hope your gut gets sorted at some point, this is so frustrating for you.

Pretty sooon, you'll really WILL be eating like a cat.
A housecat.
Tins of tuna and nothing more.

The day I have to give up sautéed spinach and/or cow meat is the day I throw in the towel.

MAJOR LAME.

I'm telling myself you're just giving me a hard time and that you don't honestly rely on me being drunk to be good company.

Yes, quinoa is a more-than-usual complete sort of protein, but it comes with more-than-usual defenses against herbiviores to match.
from: http://www.cathletics.com/recipes/index.php?action=recipe&recipeID=8
The seeds of quinoa can be used as a substitute for oatmeal, rice, and many other true grains as the texture is exceptionally similar. The beauty of quinoa is that it is a complete protein, containing all eight essential amino acids, including lysine which is deficient in grains. Further, quinoa also contains omega-3 fatty acids, minerals, B-vitamins, and is gluten-free for our celiac friends. (Ed.-This is not entirely true as there is a water soluble fraction from Quinoa that does cause a positive reaction in celiacs despite the lack of gluten. It is interesting to note that botanically quinoa is classified as a fruit and as Scott notes is a member of the spinach family; however, similar needs often produce similar solutions where evolution is concerned. Quinoa although not a grain has developed a full assortment of antinutrients similar to those found in grains. Scott notes some of these antinutrients below. Quinoa is delicious, fairly nutritious and should be regarded as essentially a grain, both with regards to antinutrients and carbohydrate content.)

Quinoa always gave me some tummy trouble, even when I was prepping super-carefully.

Other gluten forms more like wheat just seem to make me fat/bloated/tired.

And cheese. I love it.
When are you starting?

I suspect that dairy might be the culprit in my recent digestive issues and my body's stubborn hanging onto belly fat. I can't say for sure, but it just feels likely. You know? And if giving up dairy for 30 days, three months, half a year, whatever...if it gets me over these stupid bouts of pain and nausea, I'm good with that.

As for the Whole30 thing, the only item in that plan, which I just read, that I was not about to start doing effective tonight, is abstain from boozahol. However, I bought a George (Foreman Grill, but I just want to call it my George, because I think I'm funny), and went to the grocery store for greens, leeks, meats, eggplants, lemons and other suitable items, including plastic ware for my lunches. Coincidence, or something more?
When are you starting it? Because I think I not only can but deeply desire to not consume alcohol for thirty days. The rest is cake. Or rather, expressly not cake. You know what I mean. ;D

I'm starting August 1. However, if you choose to start after the concert, I certainly won't think less of you. =D
I figure, if I can't cut out booze for thirty days, there is a problem, there.
I have great George Envy. Perhaps I'll schedule a trip to KC to retrieve my long-promised grill this week.

...
I view this as a great plateau breaker.

Hmmm, in other words, this is the sort of thing I'm saving for a kick-in-the-ass to my metabolism if the current mode of dieting is not serving my health needs.

Right now, I'm in a so-far, so-great state.
It looks hardcore to me, and I'm drawn to it.
Tempted to do this between Aug 15th and September 15th.

I'll be sure to tell you if it's working for me. I've been at the same stupid 150 since April. *sigh*
