Apparently I haven't hit the nadir yet

Fuck. The numbness in my foot and leg that has been absent since before New Year's is back. I felt worse after Tuesday's treatment with Dr. Jones, and today I feel worse than that. And I don't think this is a psychosomatic reaction to the three hundred and forty fucking dollar bill I got for my two visits to his office last month. But that's certainly not helping my attitude about it, I tell you what.

So I'm back to being unable to sit for more than fifteen minutes at a time, which is going to make Friday's drive to KC and the drumming performance a really fun time.

Today's weather is a pisser, too.

Christ.

I just want to go home and drink.

Fuck is right. What kind of treatment are you receiving from Dr. Jones?

That is a crazy high bill! WTF is going on here? Where is the problem: the dr or the insurance co? The whole point of being in-network is that the dr has agreed to the fees decided upon by the insurance co. I really do not understand how you could have such a high bill from a network dr. unless he is performing treatments that are not covered, in which case you should have been informed of the cost up front and told that it is not covered.

Can you tell that I have gone more than a few rounds in my time with both drs and insurance cos? This kind of shit really pisses me off because it too often involves someone taking advantage of those who are sick and/or in pain. I really hope that this is just a screw-up on the part of someone punching codes into a computer somewhere and, also, that you won't have to deal with this with the next billing. You should be able to get a print-out of all charges, etc... from the dr.s billing office, if you want to head this off at the pass, as it were.

I hope you feel better soon.

I get ART treatments (http://www.activerelease.com/) from him. I have no idea what the problem is, but the Very Nice Insurance Rep I spoke with yesterday sounded like he thought things looked positive as far as insurance picking up most of the tab.

This is, I hope, some sort of weird communication issue between insurance and the therapy office because I know a lot of other people at KU who have my same health insurance and they did not have this problem. Now it's just a waiting game.

I won't be making any more appointments until we get this figured out, though! Of course, considering how much worse I feel after the last treatment, that might not be a bad thing.

I've read a little about active release and I have wondered if it would help me. I didn't try it because I just reached the end of my medical tether in regard to my musculoskeletal problems. Last January, a highly-recommended physiatrist left me in greatly increased pain after testing my degree of nerve damage in my lower body (from Guillan-Barre as a teen and multiple foot surgeries as an adult).

It doesn't sound like it gets a ringing endorsement from you at this point, but have you experienced any relief prior to this week's session in tendonitis/osis or other soft tissue problems (I know you have a herniated disc but I am not familiar with your other problems)?

BTW, I remember reading somewhere, when I was checking out ART, that it is often treated as a type of massage therapy by insurance co.s, which is less likely to be covered than chiro or other treatments. (Although I have yet to find ANY other treatment that helps with my soft tissue problems like various forms of massage therapy.)

Good luck with all of this.

It helped my piriformis stuff this summer. I think, though, that I'm gonna take this back to my rolfer, who is awesome. Not covered by insurance at all, but at this point, I need something that I'm fairly confident about.

I've had great luck with Dr. Rob's ART therapy on my shoulder and elbow. Beforehand, I was pretty much in constant pain when using them; now those pains are almost entirely gone.

And I'm sure the cost issue is just a mixup in the insurance, because the most I ever had to pay (for analysis + treatment) was about $45. Usually about $10, I think, per session.

Whoa. I am really sorry...
Do you have any idea what the numbness is from?

How much 2 doctor's visits cost is a scandal...it just not right.
ah...now scrolling I see that your insurance will pick that cost up. I hope it's sooner rather than later.

The numbness is a result of my sciatic nerve being irritated, which is caused by inflammation of my piriformis muscle, which we suspect is due to the bulging disc.

If you ever need an example of how everything in one's body is related, I'm a poster child.

I did get to home home and drink eventually, but had to sober up by 6:30 so I could drive to Hippie Drum Circle practice.

*sigh*
