Charting a course of action

This is pretty much how I feel about all scented body washes, but Axe body wash is particularly egregious, yes.

Holy crap, a surfing goat!

This morning I'm going to my first Kundalini Yoga class. I have no idea what to expect. I'm avoiding looking up any information on it because I like the idea of going in sans expectations--of the class and of myself.

After that, today is gonna get a little crazy. I'm heading to KC early this afternoon to run an errand or two, then catching a matinee of The Woman in Black with [livejournal.com profile] orrin, then more errands, and then [livejournal.com profile] miischelle's show at City Stage Theater at 7:00. I need to chart the locations of my different destinations and evaluate how best to run the errands so I don't wind up back-tracking all over OP/Lenexa. Also, I need to pack some food. Thank goodness I bought that thermal bento box all those years ago.

I thought I might sleep over in KC after all that, but looking at my planner, I see I intended to go to Sweat Your Prayers (Dance Church/Sunday Hippie Dance) tomorrow morning. Hm. Hmm hmm hmm.

Dear Weather: It would be really awesome if you did not rain on me all day today. I hate highway driving in the rain. Hate it.

Yesterday at my chiro/ultrasound treatment for the bursitis (JFC I have bursitis--you kids get off my lawn) I mentioned the inflammation issues to Dr. Adams. "Tell me about this," she said, which means (after going to her for three years now, I know this tone of voice) "Why haven't you brought this up before now?" So I explained to her the crazy massive swelling problems I've had in the past, and how I had them a little more under control last year but since November they'd been getting worse and for the past month things were pretty much back to the worst they'd ever been. "And it's not like I'm eating trigger foods. Surely I can't be allergic to zucchini, right?" Because it doesn't matter what I eat. If I eat, I swell. Period.

She had an immediate and totally obvious answer. Her theory: basically, my food isn't digesting. My stomach is unable to handle the food, and it starts to react. This is what causes the immediate swelling after the first few bites of a meal. Then undigested food matter is getting pushed into the small intestine, which is reacting appropriately to what it sees as an invader. This results in overall tissue swelling, and probably travels down into my large intestine as well. This is what causes the hours-long swelling that pushes out my back.

This makes 100% total sense now, and lines up with my acupuncturist Kiva always commenting on my unhappy small intestine. Poor small intestine! It's really bearing the brunt of the problem. And I would bet you dollars to doughnuts that this has been going on for many many years and the stress from it is what compromised my small intestine, making it susceptible to the Small Bowel Bacterial Overgrowth that KU Med diagnosed me with...what? Three years ago?

So I'm back on HCL/Pepcin with every meal. I stopped taking it this fall when I was starting to get heartburn after meals. It never occurred to me that I should start taking it again. Silly me, thinking something was actually cured! Dr. Adams wanted me to try a digestive enzyme that she uses, but it has lactose in it. So until I see her again on Monday (sweet Jesus, it's almost $100 every time I see her for these ultrasound/adjustment treatments for the bursitis--my deductible has to kick in sometime, right?) I'm taking the HCL I bought at the Merc.

I'm gonna try to remember to measure my waist tomorrow morning, after I've been taking the digestive supplements for 24 hours. Yesterday morning I was 32" around my waist. If I can get down to a consistent 30" for an end-of-day measurement (morning/fasting waist is 28"), I'll know this was the trick.

Oh, crap, I gotta remember to go by the bank after yoga. Yay birthday money from Daddy! And sheesh do I need it right now. For some reason, my annual longevity bonus from KU didn't show up in my bank account this month like it should have. I keep forgetting to ask our payroll secretary about it (of course). I hope the state hasn't discontinued that policy. The $500 after the winter holidays was a nice little bump into the black every year.

Okay, anyway. Most of this was just for my documentation. Document your chronic health problems, people. Being able to go back and reference this stuff is invaluable.

Holy fucking shit, I just found this video on Julie Zarate's FB. [livejournal.com profile] _luaineach are you listening this this?

Adding Hope For Humanity tag to this entry just because of this guy

I think you will be fine with rain. It is the 50-60% chance of snow starting around 6:00pm that you will not like. I think that we are supposed to get only 1-2 inches by tomorrow though, so not much.

Fuuuuuuuuck. Because of course the Saab isn't running (see Chevelle: Purchase Of), so I'm driving the Crossfire. This'll be great. I might be staying over in KC whether I like it or not.

And that Freddie-Mecury guy... WHOAH.

Sweet baby cheeses, I was so tempted to websearch the hell out of him because I was so suspicious that he was lip-synching! Wow.

And please keep posting about the "tum issues" because, well, you know. Welcome to "middle age" eh? I'm next going to try adding Intrinsic Factor to my regimen if the labs don't show something remarkable. It made a world of difference to me YEARS ago after my final miscarriage because it turned out that my body might not process B12 and Iron properly. Lab tests don't show it, because they just show what's circulating in the blood, not what gets into the tissues. I'd be very interested in how/if the additional enzymes help you.

(Axe=evil shite= the modern day version of Brut, which, sadly, still makes my pussy twitch, and not in a good way)

This might be the problem I have with Vitamin D, too. Only (as you say) there's no lab tests to find out.

And you know me, I won't fucking shut up about the food issues, so no worries about no reading about them.

:D

Do you take D3? Much preferable to D2 dosing.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-02-05 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Lemme hobble over* to the medicine drawer to see what I take...okay, yep, D3. In the little drop bottle.

*See here (http://chernobylred.livejournal.com/795004.html?thread=8898172#t8898172) for explanation.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2012-02-06 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
I take D3 in capsules.

*ouch* WTH? How did you fall?

That really sucketh.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2012-02-06 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
How did you fall?

You mean apart from my innate, natural grace?

I was taking my shoes (the Dansko maryjanes) off at the bottom of the steps and as I was stepping out of the left one, I lost my balance and fucking whammed my right knee into the corner of the wall of the staircase with all the force of a wrecking ball.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2012-02-06 01:40 am (UTC)(link)

HOly shit OUCH.

Must be the weekend, I have a weird pattern of bruising around my ankle, but interestingly, can't figure out how the hell I did it. Sympathy bruising, haha?

That Marc Martel guy rocks! I'm pretty sure that Freddie would be pleased. After all imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and all that.

Yay! I'm happy to have added something wonderful to your day.
