Jun. 2nd, 2003 12:19 pmToday is a Mamas and Papas' song, despite it being June (finally). A cool 55 degrees F and rainy. It's after noon and I haven't seen the sun yet today.
But despite the weather, I'm feeling ok. I finally got to see the endocrinologist today (no news, just tests tests more tests). I'm wearing some cute new black and white gingham capris. Had a great time at a friend's wedding reception on Saturday. Got to spend some quality quiet time with Dean last night. Went shopping with Dianne. Ms. Kij is back in town today. I'm dancing Thursday at Aladdin Cafe and I hope to use some of the fun new stuff I learned at Tribalfest.
All this is a big step up from yesterday morning, when I just wanted to crawl under the covers for the rest of the summer. I was making up a pair of pants in a tried-and true pattern that I'd never made in a stretch weave fabric. I made the first muslin in the usual size and it was too small (quelle surprise!), so I added what I thought was a two inch total increase for the second pair. I don't know if my math was off (likely) or if this fabric was substantially stretchier (possible), but they came out absolutely huge. At least five inches too big in the waist, probably four inches too big around the hips, and let's not even discuss the rise/crotch seam issue. I looked like I was wearing my dad's pants. Then I started to cut out a cute little mod A-line dress out of black linen and a contrast gingham. Wasn't paying attention and cut out the length for view A instead of view B, which meant I was about 18 inches short of fabric for the back of the dress. Hence, off to the department stores, where I fared a bit better. But I'm still missing a pair of brown capris to go with a lovely brown, red, and gold tea timer. I might just buy the "Double Espresso" colored knit leggings from Newport-News and call it good.
But now I'm sitting here in my cute outfit (not that anyone can see it--my office is so cold I'm sitting here wearing my wool car coat and a fleece cap), and it's already lunchtime. Yum.
Something else to make me happy: One of my co-workers brought me in some spiff new nail polish colors to try. Happy day!
