1. What is your favorite Johnny Cash song?
Of course, an impossible one, but Train of Love ranks up there (read: I would love to cover it if I was ever in a band).

2. Do you associate any Johnny Cash song with an event in your life?
At a friend's wedding, the bride and groom danced to Ring of Fire and it was absolutely wonderful.

3. Did you ever get to see Johnny Cash perform?
Alas, no. I had the opportunity, but I couldn't find anyone else who could go with me. We were all poor college students and tickets were $40 and up. Looking back, I should have asked my parents for a loan, but of course everything's obvious in hindsight.

4. When did you first hear Johnny Cash?
I'm sure I heard him earlier than I remember, but I first remember hearing him and liking him when I was a sophomore in college and the local alt-college radio station would play him.

5. Why do you think Johnny Cash has such a universal appeal?
He stood by his principles, but wasn't obnoxious about it. When Sam Phillips wouldn't sign him at Sun Records to sing gospel, he was fine with that and recorded different styles. Even though he opposed the war in Vietnam, he still went to entertain the troops. He never tried to be anything he wasn't, but he wasn't afraid to try new things, either. His latest recordings show a great appreciation and understanding of modern music. He made his interpretations of them truly his own, but didn't obliterate the spirit of the original. He was a man who was strong enough to accept his own weaknesses, and acknowledge those who helped him overcome. He was, simply, a great man.
