In one of my early posts, I mentioned how minor irksome events seem to plague me almost constantly. Well, sometime on Friday night my gloriously relocated refrigerator died. I opened it to get some cream for my coffee Saturday morning and it felt really warm. Hmmm...Opened the freezer for an ice cube for 0's coffee. No ice. Warm freezer. Thawed meat. Crapola.

So this weekend, in addition to fighting through the cold, I cooked up a storm. Made terrifying amounts of chili (bagged up and resting happily in chris and kij's freezer), carnitas, a rack of ribs (fed to the above mentioned lucky souls), fajitas (out of some really stellar eye of round--sob), and shredded fake BBQ beef. Let's hear it for crockpots! I'm down to the last of the chicken for tonight, and that's it for the meat stash.

Luckily, we have two dorm fridges (one in the bedroom and one in the downstairs bar), so our dairy and condiment stuff survived. But god, what a nightmare. It's crazy to have to buy ice every day if you want something cold to drink. Wow, I'm so incredibly spoiled.

Luckily, it wasn't a problem with the refrigerator being recessed. The relay that tells the compressor to turn on had broken. Total $125 to fix. Whew.

And on the up side, I completely wiped down the entire appliance while it was warm and now the inside looks shiny brand new. Not so encouraging is the idea of restocking. I see a pricey trip to the grocery store in my future. Let's all cross our fingers for post Thanksgiving meat sales.
