UPDATE:
And, whoa! Content! I completely forgot to mention this when I posted earlier today. I've spoken to a couple people recently about how rare it is to read fantasy or science fiction where the protagonist is happy to be pulled out of his normal world and the main point of the book is not his desperate journey back home. Well, of course, my beloved Clive Barker has pleased me yet again by providing exactly such a heroine in Abarat. I told myself I wouldn't buy this book until the series was finished (there will be four), but I didn't want to wait anymore. I'm very happy that I didn't. In fact, I might return the trade paperback I bought and exchange it for a hardbound copy. I love this book. While the deviant sexual stuff is nonexistent (appropriate in Young Adult Fiction, probably), his sense of the nightmarish fantastic is right front and center. I think this is one of his best. Probably second only to Imajica, for me.
UPDATE 2: Sorry for all the updates, folks. It's a super slow day here.
