Time flies

Time flies, even when I'm not necessarily having what I'd call "fun."

Saturday I got massive amounts of work done on the bodice, thanks to a certain sewing goddess. I'm planning the perfect thank you gift for her...oh, the possibilities. It's so fun to buy for other sewing-types. Went to her house in KC on Saturday morning and we drafted a pattern for my bodice. By the time I had to leave for Chess Match rehearsal we were ready to put in the grommets. Whew! I returned briefly to her house after rehearsal, put in a couple grommets, and then called it a night. Got home around 10:00 p.m.

Sunday, back up to site for another Chess Match rehearsal, this one a little more interesting and a little less intimidating than Saturday's. At least I didn't feel like quite so much of an outsider the second day. It was cool to put a couple more faces with LJ names: [livejournal.com profile] mesniu and [livejournal.com profile] fantomas71. Alas, I do not get to jump on someone's back and flail about ineffectually during the melee. As [livejournal.com profile] rougewench pointed out, her girls need to be uninjured and available to service those who survive the fight. Oh, the sacrifices I make for my livelihood. Returned home from rehearsal to make significant progress on the bodice. I did have to make one adjustment to the right shoulder, but other than that the fit is very good. Called it a night at 9:15. Sewing while exhausted never produces good results for me. I need to get the lining all tacked down and the tabs sewn in along the bottom hem and I am done with bodice #1!

It was quite reassuring to hear the sewing goddess comment on my difficult to fit for this figure. "You have a great figure for bellydance," she noted, "but not quite so easy to shape for the renaissance silhouette." She kept looking at the pattern she drew saying "I can't believe your waist is that long!" And "It's like you have two waists!" Even with her extensive expertise, I still have a bit of wrinkling across my back where my waist comes in so far. A bit of boning along the back seam should help that, but the boning might not arrive in time for Media Day this weekend. Alas.

However, the bodice looks absolutely amazing on and it really does give me the classic renaissance cone shape. It's incredible. I'm so used to seeing myself as an hourglass that it's amazing to look in the mirror and see--no waist! Just angles down to a big floof at the hips where my petticoat is hiked up and fluffed to show my bloomers. Of course, my boobs are pushed high enough to rest a drink on, but from there down--whoosh. Straight lines, baby.

Wow, and here comes the flood. Rain's really coming down.
