All summer I've been working with the Grad School and International Student Scholar Services to get a Japanese non-degree student here. It's been tricky, due to lots of red-tape crap. I won't bore you with that part. But yesterday afternoon, when I returned from an errand, there was an asian student by my desk. I asked if I could help her, and she said "Oh! You're L? I'm M!" We actually squealed together, grabbed each other's hands and shook them up and down, like a little jive dance. Then we hugged. She brought me a little present (I only teared up a little!) and then we squeezed hands again when she left. So cool. And dude, she's really tall--like my height. And pretty. And very, very pale. No wonder they didn't want to let her out of Japan.
