Various and Sundry
Nov. 7th, 2007 10:25 amI think this is a great insult to pygmies: WASHINGTON (AP) -- Two top Yahoo Inc. officials on Tuesday defended their company's role in the jailing of a Chinese journalist but ran into withering criticism from lawmakers who accused them of complicity with an oppressive communist regime. "While technologically and financially you are giants, morally you are pygmies," House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Tom Lantos, D-Calif., said angrily after hearing from the two Yahoo executives.
This morning was another early wake up call, but not so horrible bad: 5:00 a.m. That's fairly reasonable, really. And I do enjoy waking up on my own, without the alarm.
I did an interesting workout this morning. Basically, it was an hour of Gabrielle Roth style dance (careful, the website has sound), with some ab work and some series of Sun Salutations thrown in every couple songs. I made sure to use my arms a lot during the dancing/improvised movement, and even when they weren't actively in use, I held them somewhere in the general area of fifth position. For my soundtrack, I used the Chill Out Bombay CD. It was a lot of fun, and good practice for improv bellydancing. One's body gets out of the habit of moving with joy--and that puts a real damper on a good improvisational dance performance. I want to make myself some mix CDs that lend themselves to this sort of thing. Oh, how I wish I had the CD collection that Laura has at Be Moved Studio downtown for Sweat Your Prayers.
My nose is really really dry. Not quite as dry as those of the people of Tibet, who made international news with their dry nasal passages, but yes--quite dry. Breathing at work is tough. I should have irrigated my sinuses this morning. It's getting to be that time of year. Boo.
Yesterday I bought a whole grain cookbook and a gold pen at the Oread Bookstore. Hurray for the KU football team, providing me with these fabulous sale prices. Go, Hawks! I bought the pen so I could give myself a Gold Star in my planner for every day that I exercise. So far I have three gold stars. Well, two gold stars and a sticker, since a co-worker gave me a sticker for exercising before I had a chance to buy my pen. It's cheezy, but oddly motivating.
Last, does anyone local have a bicycle pump I could borrow? My ball that I sit on at work needs a little boost, and for some reason my pump just...doesn't work anymore.
