Costume

Last night I slept for shit. While I was lying awake, trying to fall asleep (oh blissful state, how you elude me sometimes), my brain came across a fabulous idea for the Masquerade at ConQuesT. I'd pretty much given up on the idea of participating this year for two big reasons:

1. I'm not interested in doing accurate reproductions of existing costumes (from movies, T.V. shows, books, etc.). There are many people who already do this sort of thing, and they do it much better than I can or ever will do. My interests lie in making a costume that is about something. A culture, a concept, whatever. I'm fine with things inspired by movies or shows--last year's entry of the human/dalek hybrid (not me) was freaking awesome. But I just hadn't come across anything that spoke to me like last year's take on Steampunk subculture.

2. It's too late. Memorial Day weekend is right around the corner, preparation-wise. Eight weeks is not enough for me to pull something show-worthy together. I have too many other obligations.

However.

Last night, I had an inspiration. It's awesome, it's original, and it's something I could pull together in two weeks, not to mention two months. So. The concept:

1111101001 Arabian Nights.
