Hammie-boy
Nov. 19th, 2009 09:57 amOur little Hefner isn't doing so well. On Tuesday night, when I picked him up to play with him, I noticed several scabby parts on his belly. He was lethargic and not happy. Also, he smelled a little weird.
mckitterick took him to the vet yesterday, and she said the prognosis wasn't good. It's likely he has cancer, although that can't be confirmed because a biopsy would be too hard on such a little body. She gave him a cortisone injection which she said would make him feel better.
Last night we fed him two blueberries (his favorite). Before I left for work, I heard him rattling around in his cage, so I fed him another one. He ate about half before he cheek-stuffed it.
This afternoon we have to decide if we're going to do cortisone treatments that might help him live another few days or if we should euthanize him while he's still feeling comparatively happy and good like he was this morning. I would rather not take him to the vet in an emergency situation where he's scared, debilitated, and in pain from a tumor. However, I understand
mckitterick's opinion that if there are a few happy days of life remaining, he should be allowed to enjoy them.

I think he belongs on CuteOverload, don't you?
