Sunday was not all that great
Feb. 14th, 2011 09:23 amSo, yesterday was complete ass.
I knew it was going to be annoying and a little tough. I planned to do three of my home diagnostic tests in one sweep because they all came with diet restriction stuff and I figured it would be easier to get them all out of the way on a weekend day when
mckitterick wouldn't be home.
I had to collect all my urine for six hours after waking, and take four salivary samples at four hour intervals. I also had to collect a stool sample. Gross. I couldn't drink caffeine, couldn't eat anything containing fructose (natural or added), couldn't eat cruciferious vegetables, onions, mushrooms, or celery, and some other things I don't eat anyway (dairy, legumes, chocolate).
Things started out okay, but after my extremely long day on Saturday (awake at 5:30am, asleep at 3:00 am Sunday), I was not feeling my best when I got up to start the tests at 7:00 am. I went back to bed after getting through the first stage of everything, hoping I'd feel better when I woke up the second time.
No such luck. I woke up at 9:00 with a headache the likes of which I haven't suffered in over a year. Maybe longer. At one point in the day, I was crawling on the floor whispering "oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck." There was also some vomiting--which made the not-eating-things-issue a whole lot easier, since I simply stopped eating. And this headache just never stopped. I was like the worst tension headache I could imagine, mixed with a migrane. Sound was painful, light was painful. Standing up was painful.
Did I mention I couldn't take any analgesics to help with the headache?
When I woke up from my third ninety-minute nap of the day, I realized this had to be more than caffeine withdrawal. Maybe the twenty-hour marathon of wakefulness on Saturday compromised my immune system and I fell prey to an evil bug.
At 9:30 last night, I finished my last saliva test for adrenal stress and I took a handful of ibuprofen before going to bed. When I woke up at 3:00 a.m. with my head pounding, I called in sick to work.
I woke up for good about an hour ago and made myself a motherfucking pot of coffee. I still don't feel quite up to eating, although I might make myself some chicken soup later today.
I tell you one thing, if/when I have to ditch caffeine, I'm weaning myself off that shit slowly. I've gone a day here and there with no coffee or tea, though, so I'm inclined to think it was something else, and just made worse by the lack of caffeine and ibuprofen. But to be safe, no way I'm ditching that one cold turkey. Just in case.
One thing I'm hoping--the illness doesn't screw up the test results. That would really really really really suck.
Edit: Various posts and comments on my F-list indicate that yesterday was Headache Day in these parts. I suspect a weather change (which I know brings on the headaches for me) was also at fault. Sounds like it was a Perfect Storm of heachache factors for me.
