More Moxa!

Kiva, my wonderful acupuncturist did another Moxa session on me last night, with the points of interest off-set from last time. Last week she did my belly button and then the four compass points around it. Last night, my belly button and then the four points between the compass points. We went through probably twenty moxa sticks. It was pretty smoky in there. I came home and washed my hair (and belly) as soon as I got home, and it made a big difference in the lingering smell.

Also a big difference is my lessening of swelling after meals. Kiva noticed a big difference last night, and I examined my tum with as least a critical eye as I could manage this morning. I think she's right. Things are definitely flatter and more defined. Yesterday I wore trousers (trousers!) to work, and was not uncomfortable after lunch.

Progress.

I'm also noticing higher energy levels and a better mood. I wake up (sans alarm) in plenty of time (5:45 am today) for some yoga before getting ready for work, and even prepped stuff for tonight's dinner. And I was still ten minutes early to work. My afternoon naps are still appreciated, but no longer crucial for survival.

Happiness!

After doing a lot of research this week on suggested supplement therapy for Hashimoto's, I decided on starting with two: N-acetylcystine, and L-Methionine. I found some interesting studies that showed acute adrenal stress inhibited the body's ability to process and use T3 and T4, so if my adrenals are shot, there's no amount of levothyroxine that's going to make me feel better. To help my adrenals recover, I'm supplementing with a B-complex and Vitamin C (in addition to cutting caffeine, not using an alarm to wake up, and going slow with the physical exertion).

I'm also going to add or increase some foods that have high concentrations of minerals that help promote thyroid health: Brazil nuts for selenium (two a day), beets for iron, sun-dried tomatoes and hearts of palm for potassium, and sunflower seeds for vitamin E. Based on my diet, I should be getting plenty of the other Top Thyroid Vitamins/Minerals (zinc, chromium, magnesium). I need to find a way to like sardines--for the calcium boost. Any suggestions?

Two step?

Does anyone local know how to two-step, who can teach me to follow and lead? I'm sitting here listening to my country music (since [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick is out of the house this evening), and thinking I really need to add this to my limited dance vocabulary.
