Breaking Muscle has a good article on emotional eating and how sugar affects our hormones.
And speaking of eating! I had my resting metabolic rate test today. Good news, my metabolism is slightly higher than it was when I had it checked several years ago. At the time, it was just a hair under or over 1,200 Kcal (by, like, two calories). Now it's 1,298 as tested, but the guy who ran the analysis said that people who eat a high protein diet have a slightly different rate that's higher than people who eat a standard American diet. This is standard enough that there's actually a different scale for us, called "Weir" and I clock in at 1,392 on that scale. He also said that my body is hugely efficient (surprise) and is most certainly burning fat instead of carbs for energy, as shown by my RER of .72. The way my body uses fuel is (alas) more in line with endurance and long-distance athletes. This was indicated (I think?) by my METS number of .71. That doesn't mean weight lifting is bad for me (at all), but if I want to lean down I must incorporate more endurance stuff. So, more reps at lighter weights, and I'm going to start taking fast walks/sprints for 45 minutes in the mornings at the high school track next to our house on days I don't lift--once the weather warms up, anyway.
ETA: Oh, I forgot! My blood pressure, which has always been fairly low, was 90/48. My old record was 90/60. The guy running the evaluation was pretty impressed. Or horrified. Or...both? I've never had my blood pressure taken first thing in the morning, lying down, in a dark room, after I've had ten minutes to just sort of chill out. Ninety over forty-eight!
So now I have that information, and am going to read up on the details of the Specific Carbohydrate Diet stuff this afternoon to start that on Sunday.
