If I’m honest, something akin to embarrassment has lingered in me: only in the last two or three years have I been able to own up to friends and peers about this previous life. That sort of thing always makes me sad, but this is an essay about coming around from that. This in particular is beautiful: ...writing fanfiction is what taught me how to slow down and listen for these cues in the work of others, to find pleasure, rigour and creativity (to find an identity, even) in the process of close reading, of intimate spectatorship.
Morning thunderstorms today would usually please me greatly but I slept not at all well last night. I woke a few minutes before six, but only managed to drag myself out of bed three hours after that.
Which is annoying bc in addition to doing Actual Adult Stuff today (very necessary Adult Stuff that I've been putting off for literal weeks) I want to finish the writing portion of Hellbent's sequel today--I worked on it a lot yesterday, even though you might not be able to tell that from the accomplished word count. One nice thing about writing a PWP sequel to a PWP is there's even less need for establishing setting and characters. It only took me a bit over twelve hundred words to get to the kissing!
Of course, any of that happening depends on my brain shifting out of second. Something it utterly failed to do for more than ten minutes at a time yesterday. I did get this great photo of Miette tho.
