Speaking of fics, I got some done on Redemption this week!

For a moment, (Zhang Shi's) eyes reminded Zhao Yunlan of the few instances of tenderness he’d received from Zhao Xinci. Or what he thought had been Zhao Xinci. Had his father been behind a even single one of those moments, or had it always been the alien living inside him? Did Zhao Yunlan want to know the answer to that?

“Why didn’t you tell Minister Guo?” he asked.

“About what?”

Zhang Shi tilted his head to the side in a show of confusion, a hint of smile hiding in the corners of his mouth, eyes sharp. For a moment Zhao Yunlan looked into a mirror, one with eyes that occasionally flashed gold. He shook his head and a finger with a slightly-forced laugh.

“Don’t try that against me with my own face.”
