When I was home sick on Monday, I got sucked into watching a show on VH1 called
Rock Bodies: From Flab to Fab. I was amazed.
For one, the girls they picked for the show were all average (ok, *women* for you picky-sensitive folks out there). And I don't mean nineteen-year-old cute girl average. No, these were just your average girlfriend. You know, the kind that us normal folks know and love? For second, the trainer honestly seemed concerned that they all complete the training. He didn't pick favorites, and had good things to say about each of them. Third, the girls themselves were so supportive and encouraging to each other. There was none of the sniping and cattiness that (I assume) one finds in most reality T.V.
I was also impressed that, at the end, total weight loss was not really emphasized. One girl didn't meet her goal for weight loss, but she beat everyone else for total bodyfat percentage loss. Instead, they were judged by whether they completed the final "rock star workout," that looked absolutely terrifying. I don't remember what all it entailed, but it was incredible. And they all made it! Oh, sorry if I spoiled that for anyone.
So anyway, seeing this was perfect timing as I'm getting down into Serious Fitness Mode. Next week, I start the full schedule: Sunday weights & heavy cardio; Monday yoga; Tuesday dance; Wednesday tae kwon do; Thursday pilates.
I don't really mind exercise, but I can get pretty half-assed about it. I don't like to push myself. But I don't just want "slim" anymore. I want fit. I want form. I want to look like I could kick your ass (mostly 'cos I can't). Watching this gave me another mental boost to really push myself.
It's one thing to watch something like "Rock Star X: A day at the gym" and think sure, right, but they are *so* not a normal person and if I got paid millions to look that hot, by god I'd look that hot. It's another to look at four women just like me--normal girls with normal bodies and no 8-hour a day training sessions--and think OK, yeah, that I can do.
Now to do it.
