Pasta and Okra
2 medium onions, chopped
4 cloves of garlic, minced
1 lb. okra, cut in 1/2" pieces, tops and tails removed
1 can of tomatoes
1/2 large jar of spaghetti sauce
3 c dried cheese-filled tortellini

Cook pasta according to package directions.

Cook onions in a small bit of oil until almost caramelized. Add garlic and cook both until browned. Add okra. Just before the okra gets slimey (about 2 minutes), add tomatoes and sauce. Reduce heat and simmer until okra is soft.

Mix vegetable mixture with pasta. Serve with grated mozzarella.

Yesterday I resized the Italy pictures so they're a manageable size for casual browsing and named them something more helpful than the assigned numerical title that the camera gives it by default. Then I realized that I'd dated them all wrong--I forgot we lost a day going there. Of course, I didn't realize this until I got to the ones for Day Seven and I thought "Wait, we came home on the thirty-first. Why am I only on the thirtieth?" Gah.

Does anyone want some postage stamps from Moldova?

So that prescription Dr. Burt gave me for the new allergy medication? I lost it. I also lost the $48 check from KU Endowment that I was going to deposit on my way to the pharmacy. sigh If I don't find it this weekend, I'll call for another copy. How irritating.

Breyer's Fried Ice Cream flavor is quite tasty. Two thumbs up.

I'm filling in my brand-spanking new planner this morning. I love how all the pages are crisp and clean. I'm being careful with my handwriting and taking care not to smear the ink. It'll be all dog-eared and dirty within two weeks, but for now, oh so nice and tidy.

While pulling the new graduate handbooks out of their Kinko's box, two of the spiral bindings caught in each other and pulled the handful out of my fingers. Somehow, it caught on my thumbnail and pulled it out away from the nailbed. Shit, I thought, so much for that nail. But there wasn't even a mark on the nail! I tell you, folks, Nailtiques products are the fucking bomb. Last year, that sort of thing would have ripped my nail halfway off. But now? Not even a snag. They're available at Joda & Friends Salon on 6th Street! Buy locally!
