It's a good day
Nov. 13th, 2008 09:45 amNothing like starting off the day with Great News. From an email that went out from HR this morning:
Governor Sebelius has announced an additional state holiday on Friday, December 26, 2008. In designating the holiday, the Governor stated it was to show "appreciation for the hard work you do throughout the year. Through your commitment to public service, we will continue to make Kansas a better place live, work and raise a family."
Yay! It means that Monday, December 29th is going to be a killer for me with the application materials that have piled up over the four-day weekend, but who cares? Free four day weekend, baby!
Instead of exercising, I went to the grocery store this morning to stock up on plain meat and vegetables. I love going to the grocery store early in the morning. It's so empty, and all the produce is happy and colorful and well-stocked. We'll see what a week of eating simply does for my system. I'll do my work-out this evening (it's possible that I won't have a car tonight, so I figured I'd better get food while I had the certainty of wheels).
Oh, by the way
renniemom, I was wrong on the name of the diuretic pills I take. It's these. I took one this morning, have already peed three times, and am feeling less tortured by my waistbands. Diuretics are not something to take regularly, but they help so much when you're super uncomfortable from water retention.
Daddy's in KC today and tomorrow and I'm hoping to make it there tomorrow to have lunch with him. It might be tricky since most of the office is going to be out for a funeral. I'm hoping the chair (who will be attending the funeral) will agree to just shut down the office for the afternoon. *crosses fingers*
Here's a confession: I absolutely love this CD. It makes no artistic statements, nor does it break any musical ground. It's not breathtaking in its originality. There is absolutely nothing on here that hasn't been done before. But oh my goodness, this band manages to make standard verse-chorus-verse-bridge power-pop into something delightful, clever, and occasionally creepy. It's one of my favorite albums of the year. If you're looking for some ear fluff, give this CD a try. Oh, and bonus--they're from St. Louis. Midwestern Boys!
Check out this fabulous letter generator. Thanks to
cmt2779 for the tip on that website.
I want to go dancing.
