This gif is perfectly representative of me and my health problems.

I've been steadily gaining fat around my middle the past couple months. Remember when I was really excited that my swelling had gone down to the point where I could fit into some old jeans again? Yeah, not so much anymore. The weight carries differently, and is constant, even in a fasted state, so I don't think it's all returned inflammation (although there is some of that, as well). Maybe introducing white potatoes and more fruit isn't working for me. I certainly haven't noticed a decrease in inflammation or an increase in energy levels, and I have felt hungrier between meals, so...yeah. White potatoes are returning to the Occasional Treat column.

And my inflammation issues post-food are getting worse again. I'm now back to regular occurrences of stomach-swollen-past-my-boobs and I can't button those old jeans, even first thing in the morning.

Because I'm out of ideas of things to try on my own, I paid $37 to these guys for their e-book collections of the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. I'll be reading up on that next week and will give it a try once I've used up most of the non-conforming food in the fridge that [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick doesn't eat (the white potatoes, coconut milk, etc.). I also made an appointment to get my Basal Metabolic Rate tested by the Energy Balance Lab at KU (they don't do this for the public and I had to sweet talk them into doing it for me since I'm not involved in any of their studies). Last time I got my BMR tested, it was a hair under 1,200 calories/day. I want to see if my increased muscle mass has changed that number before I start monitoring my caloric intake.

Once I have that information and have digested the SCD stuff, I'll spend the rest of the summer monitoring my food intake and tracking the results. THRILLING. I know I'm excited. Who wouldn't be?
